A true taste of the south before we headed north

August 24, 2017 by Chelsea Weisel

Rather than skip ahead, we still want to share where we were before we got to Maryland! So enjoy a few delayed blogs as we catch up.

We loved visiting Charleston, SC and ended up extending our visit by a few days in order to take in more of what the city had to offer. We enjoyed the convergence of history, music, good food, and utter decadence that reminds you that you are in the south.

We would probably have to learn how to drink more sweet tea, and I (Chelsea) would have to wear more heels if we were going to settle in Charleston, but for a two-week vacation, it was everything we could have hoped for.

A few highlights: A horse drawn carriage tour of the historic downtown, taking the ferry over to Fort Sumpter, visiting Angel Oak, Sullivan's Island beach, Poe's Tavern, a nighttime walk along Waterfront Park in the French Quarter, and raw oysters and champagne at Amen Street Fish Bar.

We stayed at Oak Plantation Campground and loved our experience amongst the oak trees. Every evening the cows in the neighboring field walked home along the fence line and nodded in our direction. They were the best neighbors!
